HAS AMERICA FORSAKEN THE
LORD?
This great nation was founded by English Settlers who came to advance the Christian Faith and bring glory to Almighty God. When they reached a point of land they named Cape Henry, one of their first acts was to plant a Cross firmly in the sand and claim this new land, not for England, but for God. On April 29, 1607 their spiritual leader, Reverend Robert Hunt had them erect a seven foot oak Cross made from timbers they took from their ship. Years later this place became known as the city of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Next they would go fifteen miles upstream to establish Jamestown, so named in honor of their King James of England.
These men and women began this new land with a Prayer Meeting! With Pastor Hunt in the lead, they knelt in prayer around the Cross and claimed this new land for the glory of God and His Son Jesus Christ. The central and largest building constructed in Jamestown was a Church. All the settlers worshipped God, observed the sacraments of their Christian Faith and were taught to obey the commandments of God. The concept of separation of Church and State would have been unthinkable to them because their Christian faith and their civic government were as one. It is very important to note that the first representative assembly opened with prayers offered by local Christian clergymen, seeking God's guidance in their proceedings. I perceive today guidance is sought elsewhere, of how one must be politically correct.
Their concepts of life, freedom, and ordered liberty were framed by the Ten Commandments of the Old Testament and the Sermon on the Mount of the New Testament. Without dispute, the United States of America began as a Nation of Christians and as a Christian Nation framed by the Commandments of God.
The founders of the United States of America did advance the Christian Faith and this country was found upon Christian principles, even though the liberals and atheists in our modern day would like to reject that fact. It would have been unthinkable to those Godly men and women that the teaching of the Holy Bible would be denied to children in their schools or stripped from the public square by court orders. This new nation was not multicultural, Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist or Atheist. It was a Christian nation intended to be governed by religious people who were guided by the Precepts of the Holy Bible. Written ninety four years after the founding of Jamestown, the Delaware Charter of 1701 expressly states:
"Almighty God being the only Lord of Conscience, Father of Lights and spirits; and the Author as well as object of all divine knowledge, Faith and Worship, who only doth enlighten the minds, and persuade and convenience the understandings of people... And that all persons who also profess to believe in Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world, shall be capable to serve this government in any capacity, both legislatively and executively."
So where are we now in 2008? My friend, we are truly in the last days! 2 Timothy 4:3-4 states, For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the Truth, and shall be turned into fables. This passage of Scripture pertains to correct Doctrine of our Lord Jesus being forsaken, but can also be applied to people turning their ears from the Truth of Godly leaders trying to enter office to lead this nation according to Godliness. In our present day, we have groups who are promoting behaviors and lifestyles that is an outright abomination to our Holy Father. From abortions, which has murdered untold millions, legalized gay marriages in certain states, and the Bible and Prayer taken away from our children, it is only a matter of time before the wrath of Almighty God pours down on this nation. Proverbs 14:34 says, Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people. How can this nation as a whole, claim the Righteousness of Christ when they are not even allowed to say the Name of Jesus or Merry Christmas in some of our most famous businesses. We find ourselves too busy worrying how we might offend someone who worships a god that does not even exist. Forgive us Lord. Yes the name of Christ has almost but diminished from the public arena. And why is that? Jesus Christ, our only Eternal Saviour, is an offense to the self-righteous.
Why is Governor Sarah Palin being ridiculed and attacked so viciously? Is it not because she is a born again Christian, who professes Jesus as her Savior? What happened to the Delaware Charter of 1701 that expressly states, all who profess to believe in Jesus Christ shall be capable to serve this Government in any capacity? The Word of God in Ephesians 6:12 states, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
People this remarkable woman's work speaks for itself. Anyone can research and see the incredible job she has done for her state. Just think of the difference she can make, with God in control, for our nation. 2Chronicles 7:14 says, If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will heal their land. Now is the time for us to get down on our knees and pray in the name of Jesus for God's Perfect and Holy Will to be done in this Nation. Everyone loves to use the expression God Bless America, but how much longer will the blessings stay? If people do not turn from their wicked ways, God will not forgive our sins and heal our land, judgment will surly come. A word of encouragement little flock, the Lord tells us in Proverbs 3:25-26, Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes. For the Lord shall be your confidence, and shall keep your foot from being taken.
Oh the ruins of Sodom and Gomorrah, Dr. George Adam Smith says, " Here was laid the scene of the most terrible judgment on human sin. The glare of Sodom and Gomorrah is flung down the whole length of Scriptural history. It is the popular and standard judgment of sin. The story is told in Genesis; it is applied in Deuteronomy, by Amos, by Isaiah, by Jeremiah, by Ezekiel and Zephaniah, and in Lamentations. Our Lord employs it more than once as the figure of the judgment He threatens upon cities where the Word is preached in vain, and we feel the flame scorch our own cheeks. Paul, Peter, and Jude makes mention of it. In Revelation the city of sin is spiritually called Sodom. Though the glare of this catastrophe burns still, the ruins it left have disappeared."
So has America forsaken the Lord? Not altogether, there are truly a precious few souls who hold on to God's Promises and do get down on their knees and pray 'Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.' And we can be assured the Lord has heard our prayers. 2 Chronicles 7:15 Now my eyes shall be open, and my ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place. Oh Praise God!! The Apostle Paul declared it best in 1Timothy 2:1-3, I exhort therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men; For kings, and for all who are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all Godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.
In these trying times we are living in, it is truly about electing the right leader, man or woman, after God's own heart, as King David of old, that we may whole-heartedly lead a quiet and peaceable life with all Godliness.
